TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY VETERAN EDWARD M. PETERS TO LEAD OPENCONNECT
Former DataDirect CEO to Drive Strategy and Direction for Mainframe-to-Web Integration Innovator

DALLAS, TEXAS (June 10, 2005) — OpenConnect Systems, Inc., the premier supplier of leading mainframe-to-Web solutions, today announced that Edward M. Peters has joined the company as chief executive officer, bringing more than 25 years of expertise in operations excellence and technology integration to the company. Peters was most recently president and chief executive officer at DataDirect Technologies, where he led the company's spinoff from Merant and ultimate sale to Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) for approximately $88 million in cash.

At OpenConnect, Peters is charged with leading the company's evolution as a leader in delivering software solutions that provide secure, high-performance browser-based access to applications and data. As a player in the Gartner Programmatic Integration Servers Magic Quadrant, OpenConnect has developed a complete set of software solutions and integration tools that enable large, complex organizations to securely leverage their existing legacy assets in a Web browser-based environment, increasing productivity across the enterprise, saving money on IT infrastructure and sharing information from application to application.

"The software infrastructure community is consolidating, and only a few visionary companies will stand out and be capable of delivering on the promise of enterprise integration," Peters said. "OpenConnect has a very strong customer base, proven technology and a unique security platform in connecting legacy systems via browsers. The company is primed to expand beyond screen-based integration and to elevate into service-oriented architecture and other enabling technologies and solutions."

Peters' former company, DataDirect Technologies, has long been recognized as the industry leader in the data connectivity components market. Prior to the DataDirect spinoff as a standalone company, Peters served as senior vice president and general manager of the Merant business unit before leading the management buyout of DataDirect in November 2001, with Golden Gate Capital as the equity sponsor. Peters has more than 25 years of experience in various software and IT industry roles, including his role as CEO of Cerebellum Software and general manager of data connectivity group at INTERSOLV, where he led the unit to become the leading independent software vendor in the data access middleware market.

"Ed has extensive experience in our space," said Hugh Balloch, managing principal of Goff Moore Strategic Partners, L.P. "He understands what our customers are looking for, has a firm grasp of the opportunities that are in front of us and the strategic vision to help us get there. Ed's track record of success in building companies and his entrepreneurial spirit are just what we need."

Peters has received numerous industry and management awards, including the 2004 Maryland Technology Council Entrepreneur of the Year Award, the IBM/GUIDE International President's Award, the R/A/D Award for Excellence in Repository-Based Application Development and a Lehigh University Williams Prize. He was also an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award finalist in 2003 and 2004. Peters is currently on the board of directors for Defywire, a Herndon, Va. based provider of mobile middleware software, and is a director for the Computer & Communication Industry Association.

Peters earned a bachelor of arts degree in government and a master's of science in industrial engineering from Lehigh University and also attended Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
